FAQ

How can I help you to keep the costs down?

There are many ways in which you can help us to build you a quality website on a budget. Generally speaking, our charges are billed on a time worked basis, therefore if you are able to send your content electronically that will save considerable time. Images for inclusion should also be sent electronically and re-sized to a suitable height/width and the files should be named appropriately.

How long will it take to build?

How long it takes to build a site is generally dictated by the client providing all content/images and approving the design. We aim to have a new site built and ready for approval and upload within approximately three - seven days of receiving all the content/text/photos required for the site. This is an approximate estimate and is based on an average sized web design project. Designs which are complex and/or contain hundreds of pages/images will take longer to build.

What about graphics and image manipulation?

We can produce all the graphics for your site (based on your preferences). Each of our designs is unique and is made for the individual client concerned. Page backgrounds, banners, buttons etc. are all individually designed for you, we don't use any templates, and each project is designed to your requirements. The copyright for these designs remain the property of Powerscourt Web Design and does not form part of a "work for hire agreement.”

If you have old photos or photos which contain unsuitable backgrounds we can enhance these and remove objects, we can resize, repair images and change backgrounds. Image manipulation does not form part of the web design cost and will be charged for at our standard hourly rate for the time taken to adjust/enhance/improve the images/graphics.

What about ongoing maintenance and updates?

We provide a Site Maintenance Service, in which we will perform all future website updates for you and monitor the time taken on a timesheet. Invoices for updates are rendered monthly. This is a cost effective option for most people, we are proficient in what we do and costs are very reasonable with an average update cost for most of our clients equating to less than £8.00 per update. We aim to update sites within 6 - 48 hrs of receiving the required updates subject to our workload at the time.

For those Client's who would prefer to update and maintain their own website we offer a CMS package. See below for more information.

How can we offer such competitive prices?

We are competitive because we charge fixed price packages or for time worked (in the same manner a Solicitor charges - but not at the same hourly rate!). When selecting a fixed price package we do not specify the number of photos/graphics or text you are "allowed" to include (depending on the design you may have as much text and as many graphics as you need). We will build the pages to your specifications regardless of how much content is required. When you choose our time worked option the only charge to you is our "labour" charges, there are no hidden extras. If we are engaged in work on your behalf for 29 minutes then you will be charged for 29 minutes time and not a set fee or an hourly rate.

At PWD, we believe that Client's should get value for money. Building a professional website is a complex task and naturally, charges for website design reflect this, however we don't believe in charging extortionate prices. We are able to produce bespoke and professional websites at what we feel are reasonable costs for the level of expertise and work involved. 99% of our new business comes from referrals from satisfied Clients.

If I buy a website from you do I own it?

Yes, once the website is complete and published you own it. However please note, PWD build web sites on a "work for hire agreement" and therefore the content (text, photos etc.) of the site is the property of the client, the design elements of your web ( i.e. graphics, style, layout, hyperlinks and other design elements not specifically listed) do not form part of "work for hire agreement" and will remain copyrighted to Powerscourt Web Design.

If you take over the maintenance of your site, you must acknowledge copyright to Powerscourt Web Design and this must not be removed from the published site. You have permission to use the web design for your personal use, however you must not transfer the design to another web design company, doing this would be an infringement of the design copyright.

What happens after the work has been completed?

The project will be uploaded to your hosts servers and will be publicly available. If you are planning to maintain your own website without the use of the CMS package, a copy will be "burnt" onto a DVD and posted to you. If however you wish Powerscourt Web Design to maintain your web (including updates/additions) then the files will remain with PWD.

Why are the template packages good value?

Unlike our bespoke design projects, where each page is coded specifically to the client’s specifications, our templates are pre-built (by us). This means that we are able to utilize the code and style sheets repeatedly without starting from scratch.

We will of course produce a custom banner for each client that compliments the template; however, many hours of graphic design and code writing are greatly reduced when a template is used. In addition to this, the content of each template based page will be inserted by the client using our user-friendly text editor/publisher (CMS). With our bespoke designs the content and images used on each page compiled by us which requires many hours of work.

We believe that quality and service can be maintained together with individuality of design because our template designs are visually pleasing, made from XHTML code and compliant style sheets offering consistent design features. With custom made banners and unique content, our template designs offer good value for money at an affordable cost whilst still maintaining an individual feel.
